Analyzing the Functions of Database Applications
The first function is to create, read, update and delete views from the database. A view is a particular way of looking at a data in a database. The data is always stored in tables and views present the data to the user by displaying only certain columns from one or more tables. SQL statements are used create views. If data is retrieved from more than one table, the SQL is said to be a JO/N. You will have the opportunity to do this with your inventory models in next week’s assignment when you create Access queries and Forms.
The second function is to Materialize Views. After the view is created and you know what tables and what columns are required, the view needs to be presented to the user. The view contains the content (the data), and the Materialized View is the format of the view. Business requirements usually dictate the format of the view. The end users of an application usually have an input to format of the data, prior to the development of forms and reports. In week’s 3 and 4 you will have the opportunity to create Forms and Reports from your Inventory Models.
